Then shall you call on me, and you shall go and pray to me, and I will listen to you.
Jeremiah 29:12
Prayer is essentially simple and personal communion with God, just as you would communicate with another person. It is not about using a “formula” but about genuine, heartfelt conversation. If you are not sure on how or what to pray the following give you a direction.
How to pray
The Bible offers valuable guidance and examples. When the disciples asked Jesus how to pray, he provided the Lord’s Prayer (found in Matthew 6:9-13 and Luke 11:2-4), which serves as a comprehensive model covering all key aspects of prayer:
- Request for Guidance and Protection (“Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil”)
- Adoration/Worship (“Hallowed be your name”)
- Submission/Alignment with God’s will (“Your kingdom come, your will be done”)
- Supplication for Needs (“Give us this day our daily bread”)
- Confession and Forgiveness (“Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors”)

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV)
But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
Matthew 6:6 (NIV)
Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”
Mark 11:24 (NIV)
