Active Faith
Faith isn’t just a religious idea; it’s a spiritual lens. It is the “sixth sense” that allows us to interact with a realm we cannot see. While the enemy tries to steal what is invisible to the eye, faith acts as a conviction that holds onto God’s promises.
In Luke 7, the story of the Centurion provides a perfect model for this. He didn’t just have “feelings” of faith; he operated in a life-changing spiritual conviction.
Here are the six dimensions of active faith that move mountains.
The Six Dimensions of Active Faith
True, miracle-working faith is not a single act but a profound reorientation of the heart, mind, and will, operating across these six dimensions:1. Faith Sees God Alone
Active faith removes self-reliance. It shifts your focus from your own limited resources to God’s unlimited ability. When a challenge arises, don’t ask “How will I fix this?” Instead, focus on Who is in control.
- The Shift: Move from “I can’t” to “He can.”
2. Faith Works Through Compassion
Genuine faith is never stuck inside your head; it shows up in your hands. As James 2:14-17 reminds us, faith is completed through our deeds. The Centurion proved his faith through his active love for his servant and his support for others.
- The Fruit: Compassion is the outward evidence of an inward conviction.
3. Living in Holy Reverence
The “Fear of God” isn’t about being afraid; it’s about deep awe and respect for His authority. This reverence is the spiritual gravity that keeps us humble. When we acknowledge God’s holiness, we draw His presence into our situation.
- The Result: Jesus “marveled” at the Centurion because he understood how authority truly works.
4. A Heart of Constant Gratitude
Faith sees God’s hand in your past, your present, and your future. This leads to a “gratitude habit” (1 Thessalonians 5:18). Staying thankful prevents bitterness from taking root and keeps your heart open to receive the next miracle.
- The Practice: Thank God for the answer before you even see the result.
5. Declaring Jesus as Lord
Faith is a confession of who is in charge. By declaring Jesus as Lord over your circumstances, you shift the “remote control” of your life from yourself to Christ. When He is Lord, His command overrules your crisis.
- The Confession: You submit your needs and your solutions entirely to His sovereignty.
6. Trusting the Power of the Word
This is the bedrock. The Centurion understood a profound secret: Jesus didn’t even need to be physically present to perform a miracle. His Word alone was enough.
The Foundation: Romans 10:17 tells us that faith grows by hearing the Word of God. If God said it, that settles it.
